A Short History
Crosby Park began serving meals from the kitchen of the Church of Christ in Windsor in 1973 and was registered as the Windsor and Districts Meals On Wheels Association. The service moved to the current custom built premises in Crosby Road Albion in 1995 and was registered as Crosby Park Meals on Wheels Inc.
In November 1999 the Fortitude Valley service was merged into Crosby Park which expanded the service to providing approximately 130 meals per day. Changing demographics have meant that this has reduced to 80 – 100 meals per day.
The service has about 80 volunteers and we are also grateful to have Hamilton Rotary, Commonwealth Bank, Albion Bunnings and BK Real Estate in Ascot as corporate volunteer organisations.
Ethos of service for MOW
Meals on Wheels is an iconic Australian Charity that has been bringing local communities together for more than 60 years. Meals on Wheels offer much more than a just meal by providing a daily visit which assists clients to continue to live in their own homes and maintain their freedom and lifestyle.
Meals on Wheels provide meals to suit a client’s personal requirements and can accommodate most dietary needs.
We deliver healthy meals to clients’ homes to not only ensure their nutritional requirements are being met, but to provide regular social contact, a friendly smile and a chat about family, friends or the weather.
As well as nutritional support, Meals on Wheels volunteers provide important social contact and are able to monitor a client’s well-being, health and safety.
Our meals are delivered by volunteers 5 days per week. Meals leave the centre between 10.30 and 10.40 each day and on Friday we send out weekend meals as well.
Meals can be ordered and delivered hot, chilled or frozen. Heating instructions are always given to clients when they commence meal delivery.
It is also possible to receive numerous days of meals together (usually frozen) so that a client can attend doctors appointments and not miss their deliveries.
In January 2018 we recommenced cooking our client’s meals after 9 years of buying meals in from a commercial company. Our chef prepares quality meals daily and provides gluten free, soft, puréed and cut meals so that all requirements are catered for.
Our meals are ordered by clients from a rotating 6 week menu which is subject to change in relation to seasonal prices of meat and vegetables.
In addition, the meals can be provided hot, chilled or frozen. We provide a fresh salad and sandwiches everyday and snack packs, breakfast packs and biscuits and cheese are also available.
For our clients convenience, it is possible to purchase bulk meal deliveries.
Freshly made soup and dessert are also available for order. All meal components are available for independent purchase as well as part of a meal package.
